Correspondence and other papers, chiefly Stillman's letters to members of his family, relating to, among other topics, his voyage from New York to California in 1849; travels in Texas in 1855; his life in San Francisco, Calif., where he settled in 1856; a world tour (1876-1879) while serving as personal physician to Leland Stanford; publication of The Horse in Motion (1882), undertaken at the behest of Stanford; operation of a farm he purchased in 1877 in Lugonia (now Redlands), San Bernardino County, Calif.; and family matters. Other persons represented include John Charles Fremont.
